Mr. Chang currently serves as the director of the National Museum of Prehistory. Prior to this appointment, he was the director of the Cultural Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston. Before entering government service, he was a professor of education at National Taitung University of Taiwan, and served in various administrative positions, as Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of the Library, Director of the Center for Studies on Aboriginal Education, Chair of the Graduate Institute of Education and the Director of the President’s Office. Dr. Chang was a visiting research fellow in Institute of Sociology at Academia Sinica, Taiwan, from 1997 to 1998 and a visiting professor at the Center for Studies on Higher Education in the Pennsylvania State University from 2001 to 2003, and an Associate in Research at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for East Asia Research from, 2007 to 2009.
Having received his Ph.D in Education Theory and Policy from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Chang went on to teach and conduct award-winning research in the area of political socialization and education policy. His research includes projects for Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and National Science Council. In addition to his research work, Dr. Chang has organized numerous international conferences on education research and policy, higher education, language education, and ethnicity and education. In the year of 2010/2011 he worked, voluntarily, together with dozen’s professors to organize a six-month period youth engagement camp which attracted over 600 college students to participate.
